Aww, love the siggy of Jake!!

Carol, I don't want to influence your decision about having a second opinion... was just tossing out some things to consider. I think you should follow your heart and do whatever you feel is best for your sweet boy... you know him best and will know what is right. You're the best one to make these choices; all we can do is offer things to consider and be here to support you through this. I support whatever you decide to do and I'm pretty confident the others will feel the same way.

Hugs to you both,

Pepe Jose (cause he is a chihuahua and needed a spanish name)
and then we have the baby of the family the other chihuahua who is marked like a rottwielier or doberman and his name (thanks to my husband is an avid gamer) Bowser Koopa Troopa. From Super Mario Brothers Nintendo Game! LOL!

Thank you Terry for posting this. I am printing this out & showing my mom. She thinks I have lost my last brain. I have always given my dogs & cats middle nameS. It comes in handy. They know they are in trouble when they hear both names. Luke is Lucas Lorenzo. Rosie is Rosie Ann.
I have also had Boots Scott. Samantha Georgette. Maxwell (Maxie) Landon & Annie Rose.
My cats have been Kitty Kitty (she came to nothing but kitty) Fiesty Ann, Samual (Sammy) Thomas, Cobi Dean, Tabitha Ann (Tabi), Rickets John. Yes, I have had a lot of pets. Major was my only dog, that had no middle name. I came home from the hospital, being born with him.

Hi Carol and Jake!

We are Lori, Doug and Piper. Piper is the golden, Doug and I are just humans!
Piper is one of Debbies' grandpuppies and she will be one year old in June. She is my second golden and Dougs' first.

I had my golden Sadie for 13 years and had to put her down 5 years ago. I did learn one thing with her, and that was to never give up on her. She had a 11 pound tumor on her spleen at the age of 11 and the vet told me later that he hated to come to work the day of her operation because he thought he would just have to put her down, but she came thru with flying colors! Maybe she didn't last long, but I did have her for another two years. I was very thankful. At the end, we both knew the time had come, but we went through it together. I allowed myself to grieve, and then when the time was right I was led to this forum and found Debbie and Piper.

Hang in there and know that we are all here for you and Jake.

sm3 Welcome Carol

I need to apologize for welcoming you so late.Haven't had much time recently to post, but that is no excuse.

My name is Wendy and my three wonderful goldens allow me to live in their home and cater to their every whim. They are six year old Izzy, five year old Hope and nearly 19 month old Walker. They do keep me hopping.I cannot imagine even trying to keep up with eight!

My heart goes out to you and your Jake.It is so very hard, at any age, to lose our fur babies. My Growler was 12 1/2 when I had to make that horrible decision to release him from his pain.It was the most painful decision I ever had to make.He had been having some issues off and on.He had become incontinent and was having some difficulty walking. We went to the vet and she confirmed my biggest fear.He had a large tumor on his spleen. We discussed all options and both felt he would come through the surgery fine and could live a healthy/happy life after the tumor was removed. When she went in to remove the tumor she sent her technician out to get me so that I could see what was going on.He had between 50 and 75 tumors of various sizes all over his intestines, stomach and liver. She explained that she could remove the spleen and several of the smaller tumors, but as weeks went by the others would grow and it would be a constant back and forth for surgeries to remove them.As much as I wanted my boy to come home, I could NOT bring him out of the anesthesia that day to only have to take him back in a few weeks time for more of the same.He crossed to the bridge that day.I felt so guilty...did I make the right decision?Should I have gone to more aggressive lengths to save him?Not sure if even today, six years later, I can answer any of those questions. For him, it was the most humane, loving decision. For me, well I miss him terribly to this day.

With your Jake, you are doing absolutely everything you can for him.He is as happy as can be.You are loving him, giving him the best days of his life.As for the second opinion from the vet who hurts him, not sure I would go that route. No matter what, the prognosis isn't going to change.Just love him. That is all they ask of us....just to love.

Lindy you are so welcome.

My mother in laws dog is Nina Annalynne. (Anna is my sister in law, and Lynne is me) LOL!

My best friends dogs are Chopper Christopher, and Cash Anthony! LOL!

Hey if we have middle names, then they deserve them too!

Wendy, no need to apologize. Thank you for your story. This is the kind of thing people need to hear. The experiences of others do help.

My first Golden Rusty my sweet love of 14 year died of spleen cancer. I knew nothing about spleen cancer until the vet told me. It was very shocking at the time.

Lori and Doug, thank you for your kind words.
I think we all know we all have to do things in life we just hate and this is one of them for me.

I have such a hard time letting go but I will never let my babies suffer. Everyone of my dogs has a special place in my heart. I love them all. Soon I will loose another because they are getting up in age. I will feel the same about them.

So I hope you will all be there down the road of life. Thanks so much.
